The following appeared in a memorandum from the manager of WWAC radio station.

"To reverse a decline in listener numbers, our owners have decided that WWAC must change from its current rock-music format. The decline has occurred despite population growth in our listening area, but that growth has resulted mainly from people moving here after their retirement. We must make listeners of these new residents. We could switch to a music format tailored to their tastes, but a continuing decline in local sales of recorded music suggests limited interest in music. Instead we should change to a news and talk format, a form of radio that is increasingly popular in our area."

Write a response in which you discuss what specific evidence is needed to evaluate the argument and explain how the evidence would weaken or strengthen the argument.

The manager of WWAC radio station argues that to increase the number of readio listeners the radio station should change their format from music to news.To bolster his argument, the manager describes about the decrease in radio popularity instead of the increase in population in that area and Also, that mostly the people who are moving to this area are retired and have least interest in rock music. Moreover, he supports his argument by showing a continuing declince in local sales of recorded music. However, the author's argument is not completely cogent, since it ignores certain crucial assumptions.

Firstly, the argument assumes that since, most of the people moving in the area are retired so they will be interest in listening to news instead of music, as we do not have any information about the interest of radio genre of the people living in that area.

Secondly, even if there is continuing decline in the local sales of the recorded music, it is not necessary that people of the area are not interest in music.Maybe the people of the area are not so rich to buy music of every new albums and they are waiting for it to be aired on the radio station.

Lastly, the change of radio station from music to news and talk format will be salutory is dubious,as even if the majority of people moving in to the area are retired, still it is not cogent that they will be interested in news ,and perhaps it can also decrease the listeners by losing the people who enjoy music and are just in need of a different genre.

To sum up,the argument by the manager of WWAC radio station is not completely sound, that by changing the format of radio station will increase the listeners. To better assay the argument the author must have provided with the survey of the interest of the people living in that area, statistic about the decline in the sales of recorded music ,etc.
