Issue:"To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities."

This statement argues for the importance of studying major cities when trying to understand important characteristics of a society. Thereby, it is disparaging the importance of less major cities, towns, or village in a society.

No doubt that major cities play an important role in society.Surely major cities contributes largely in formation of society.Society basically comprises of people, culture, habits, relations, dependency, language, customs.people from different age group from adult to old play role in forming society.for instance group of people living at same location and interacting with each other forms society.Different group of people in society follow different religions, customs, traditions, cultures.let me illustrate further, the military camp areas forms society they communicate and interact with each other, in-spite of their different religions, caste, customs, cultures.

For instance, take example of gre exam, through which students from different nations get into universities which is a part of society.it is not only the major cities its also minor cities which leads to the understanding of important characteristics of any society.

In India major group of people live in small towns and villages rather than major cities they contribute in formation of society.Societies main characteristics cannot be only represented by major cities because It only reflects one side.Let's take an example of a behavior of any person,if we judge him by considering only major points of him and neglecting the minor one's we can come to a wrong decision regarding his behavior. It can be considered in same way as for major and minor cities.

In addition,as society comprises of different customs, religions, traditions people specially in country like India live in small villages and towns or in small groups and possess different characteristics.consider if someone wants to study characteristics such as traditions, customs, castes of Marathi people,he has to consider small villages which will give clearer view about their customs, traditions and other aspects.

However it's also true that major cities comprises of people belonging to different places.whenever we talk about any country we usually point out it's major cities.considering example of The United states of America,The first picture in our mind comes of Newyork rather than other small cities of America. But by this we cannot say that we came to know about its most important characteristics. Even-though we get the brief picture but we cannot get the important characteristics of other people living in the country as we have considered only one city.

Finally,To summarize as a whole villages or minor cities can give the most important characteristics rather than major cities.
