I do not agree completely with the statement that the best way for a society to prepare its young people for leadership in government or other fields is by installing just cooperation, not competition.
Yes, cooperation is necessary when we collectively need to achieve a purpose and it helps in elevating each and every one of us. There are some ill practices in society or government policies that might affect everyone. For example, illegal cutting of trees or increased drug intake among the youth. In such cases, we have seen that young people often collectively form unions raises slogans and carry out rallies and by the sense of cooperation they have brought changes in the practices and get governments' attention on such topics.
There is a famous quote which says if you want to go fast go alone but if you want to go far then go together. This quote teaches us how a sense of mutual cooperation will help each and every one of us in our longer terms. A leader is one who not only focusses on himself rather he takes all the members of teams collectively, becomes the first one to take a step towards the goal and with this unity and bond achieves it. Therefore, installing a sense of cooperation among each of the members and crediting everyone's effort.
Yet we cannot ignore the advantages which a healthy competition imparts in some fields. In competitive activities, though cooperation is necessary yet it is the sense of competition which helps in bringing the best of us. Sometimes all we need is a little competitive spirit among it not only makes the competition interesting but it also helps us to challenge over own boundaries or limits we have set for us.
Thus a right flair of cooperation and healthy competition will not only help in any field of leadership but it will also help in achieving a bigger goal that is to work collectively for a greater cause with our full potential and always challenging ourselves to be better,
