The bar chart below gives information about the percentage of the population living in urban areas in different parts of the world.

The given chart depicts the alterations in the rate of inhabitants residing in urban settings in six distinct regions in three different timestamps: 1950, 2007, and 2050.

Overall, an upward trend was seen in all selected areas throughout the period. Furthermore, all but Oceania experienced major differences.

Initially, in the year 1950, the rate of African population in this matter placed last with only 15%, lower than that of Asia by a margin of just 2%. The four other areas’ percentages were substantially higher, reaching roughly one half of their population.

57 years later, in 2007, changes in the ordering among these regions occurred, as Latin America climbed up to the second highest rank, swapping its place with Oceania. Most noticeably, Africa and Asia experienced a growth of merely a double, followed by an approximately 30% increase in Latin America. In comparison, the remaining areas saw a growth of one-fifth and below.

In the year 2050, a merely same rate of difference was seen in all selected parts of the world, except for Europe and Latin America/Caribbean, whose figures soared by a much smaller margin than they did before.
