Essay topics:

Bullying is a big problem in many schools.

What do you think are the causes of this? What solutions can you suggest?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 254 words.

The given topic asks to reason out the cause of bullying in school and to provide certain ways to mitigate them.

In my opinion, bullying in schools is just a small version of the society we live in . In society, we tend to neglect diversity in colour, region, behaviour, culture, custom, race and nationality. Ignoring the nature of these differences, we continue to humiliate, judge and suppress whoever we find different and weak. A child, being brought up in this environment imitates this behaviour and gets used to the so called fact that different people who form minority are ought to be lower than the majority. This renders the privileged, the right to bully and the downtrodden, the duty to be submissive.

Contrary to society, in school, students get bullied due to very normal differences such as being shy, wearing spectacles, carrying old bags etc., The bully will be a person who has the capacity to create gang or sometimes fight. However, the root cause for these will be the social circumstances which we have built.

To counteract this, a strong school curriculum is required. Government must coordinate with educational experts, social activists, child psychologists & teachers to frame a syllabus which can impart a sense of harmony, integrity, diversity and mutual respect in the minds of the students. Such an action can provide a long term benefit in shaping the students' character and thereby protecting the different ones from emotional distress.

An other action which could be beneficial is construction a robust anti-bully committee in schools.Though they are present today, they are inactive or ineffective in most cases. The committee must comprise of all the stake holders including representatives from students' side and a coordinator to ensure the proper functioning of the committee. It should nurture confidence in the student getting bullied to report the things happening to him.

Finally, law makers should not be law breakers. What will happen if the adults who teach students, harmony and diversity, acts indifferently in society? The next to come will also be the same. Thus it is the responsibility of every adult to treat people with mutual respect for their children to not bully or get bullied
