The given charts below compares the number of marriages and divorces over the period of 1970-2000 and also illustrates the relationship status of the US citizens in the same two periods.
Overall, it is clear that the proportion of marriages were by far the greatest in American than divorces over the period. Likewise, the population of married adults was also maximum in both years.
According to the first chart, in 1970, the marriages figures was 2.5million whereas divorces rate stood at 1million. Over the following 3 decades, marriages experienced a gradually decrease and declined to 2million while divorces, despite slight increase in 1980 to just below 1.5m, still declined to its original position at the end of the period.
From the 2nd chart, in terms of marital status of us citizens, in 1970 and 2000, seven tenth and six tenth of the adults were married while the ratio of those who were never married stood at 20% and 15%. By contrast, the number of adults that were either widowed or divorced was minimum and their ratio fall under 10% in both years.
