The chart below shows the amount of leisure time enjoyed by men and women of different employment status.

The bar chart illustrates how many hours were spent on leisure activities by male and female of various work status in a typical week in 1998-1999.

It is clear that the jobless and pensioners of both genders enjoyed more leisure time than the other types. Also, no data regarding men was given in the categories of part-time employees and housewives.

With respect to unemployed and retired people, men spent around 85 hours (about half a week) on recreations, while women spared approximately 6 hours fewer than the opposite sex. By contrast, full-time employees had considerably less time for entertainment purposes (roughly 45 hours for men and 39 hours for women).

As it can be seen from the chart, the other two employment status provided no figures for male. However, the amount of leisure time enjoyed by female part-time workers was 40 hours, which was only half as much as that spent by jobless and retired women, while the figure for housewives was slightly greater, at 50 hours.
