The chart provides information regarding the duration (in hours per week) spent by males and females of varied employment status in leisure in the year 1998-99.
Overall, we can observe that the unemployed and retired populace spent more hours in leisure than full-time employees, part-time employees, and housewives. In the categories where both genders were depicted, the amount of leisure time relished by men was greater than women.
Unemployed and retired men spent around 85 hours in leisure in a week whereas women in these categories spent approximately 75 hours (12 percent less). Though the amount of leisure time taken by full-time employees was less than the above two categories with circa 39 and 45 in women and men, respectively, the percentage difference between the genders remained at 12 percent.
In the category of part-time employees, males were not present, while females enjoyed leisure time of nearly 40 hours, however, housewives got more leisure time (almost 50 hours) than these women employees.
