The chart below shows the number of trips made by children in one country in 1990 and 2010 to travel to and from school using different modes of transport.

The pie chart illustrates how children travelled to school using different means of transport system in the years 1990 and 2010.

Overall, most of the children preferred walking while going to school in 1990, while most of the students used cars at the end of the period. Walking, Cycling and using a school bus the major modes of transportation for earlier children. In contrast, travelling by car had become more common for 2010 children.

Walking is the primary source of transportation among students in 1990 with more that 10 million trips during the year. Nonetheless, it contributed to only 6 million trips in 2010. Bus rides, cycling contributed almost similarly in 1990 with around 7 million trips. A mix of Walking and taking a bus ride accounted for just under 6 million trips in 1990.

Car trips increased by around 7 million in 2010. In contrast, walking trips and a mix of walking and taking a bus ride have reduced to half of their original value by the end of the period. Cycling trips saw a drastic decline by three times between the years.
