The chart below shows numbers of incidents and injuries per 100 million passenger miles travelled (PMT) by transportation type in 2002.

The bar chart illustrates the amount of incidents and wounds per 100 million passenger miles commuted by commuter rail, heavy rail, light rail, bus and demand response in 2002. The units are measured in PMT.

Overall, both incidents and injuries experienced an upward trend in 2002. The number of incidents are more than the injuries for all the types of transportation.

On the one hand, the incidents are accounted for around 30 PMT in commuter rail and it is higher than injuries only by 2 PMT. Injuries had 28 PMT in commuter rail. The heavy rail accounted 50 PMT for the incidents and around 40 PMT for the injuries and in the Light rail also incidents are more and it accounted for around 75 PMT where injuries is below the 50 PMT.

On the other hand, in bus also incidents are more than injuries and it is accounted for 70 and 60 PMT respectively. In the demand response like car and two-wheelers, both incidents and injuries are highest compared to all transportation and the incidents are more than 250 PMT where wounds are around 165 PMT.
