The chart below shows the percentage of female members of parliament in 5
European countries from 2000 to 2012

The line chart illustrates the proportion of female individuals of parliament in 5 European countries between 2000 and 2012.
It can be seen that all of those countries witnessed an increase in the number of female members over the time frame. UK has the lowest figure in the early of the period while that for Germany was the highest in 2000.
To begin with, female members in the UK only accounted for about 3% of those working in the parliament in 2000 but that figure climbed sharply over the period. With regard to Belgium, the percentage of female individuals of parliament was 6 times as high as that of the UK. However, after a 12-year period, both countries were predicted to share the similar proportion of approximately 24%.
There was an exchange in the positions of Germany and Italy at the end of the time frame. Germany started the period with the percentage of 34%, nearly 10% more than that of Italy. In contrast, in 2012, more female members worked for the Italy parliament than those in Germany, at around 38% and 36% respectively. The figure for France in 2000 was just under that for Italy and it was anticipated to rise by 7% after 12 years.
