The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart gives information about the proportions of owned and rented houses in percent from 1918 to 2011 in England and Wales.

Overall, what stands out is that, owned and rented accommodations have followed converse trends during these times. It means that as time went by, rented houses started to decrease, while owned ones increased gradually except in the year of 2011.

As can be seen, in 1918, more than three quarters of households were rented, whereas more than a fifth of them were owned (approximately 24 percent). Interestingly, significant gaps were declining after 1918 untill 1971 which the percentage of houses that were rented and owned have become equal, with exactly 50 percent for both categories.

Thereafter, owned accommodations overtook rented and their differences more marketable till 2001 because the proportion of owned ones were rising but rented housing were dipping. Surprisingly, in 2011, this trend has become reversed again, since owned accommodation begun to decline, while rented ones went up, with roughly 65 and 36 percent respectively.
