The graph demonstrates the amount of time the British people spent on phone calls over an 8-year period from 1995 to 2002 among three different types of call.
Overall, it can be seen that the time spent on national and international-fixed line as well as mobiles both increased over the period, while that of local-fixed line went up then down.
To begin with, the majority of telephone calls in the UK were through local-fixed line, with the average number of more than 70 billion minutes annually. National and international-fixed line was the second most used type of call, accounted for over 40 billion minutes each year. Meanwhile, mobiles were the least popular call type but had the fastest growth among the three categories.
Furthermore, regarding changes in the call duration, there was a rise in the number of minutes spent on local-fixed line in the first 5 years, reaching a peak of about 90 billion minutes in the years 1998 and 1999. After that, it experienced a significant decline, down to only 70 billion minutes in 2002. On the other hand, the total time spent on national and international-fixed line and mobile calls increased sharply over the period. More specifically, the total number of domestic and international-fixed line rose from 38 billion in 1995 to around 58 billion minutes in 2002. In addition, the number of mobile calls also went up dramatically, reaching 35 billion minutes in 2002, much higher than the initial point (1 billion minutes)
