Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The following charts depict the rates of marriages and divorces amongst American people between 1970 and 2000, with showing the percentage of marital status of adults in America in two different years of 1970 and 2000.
As can be clearly observed from the first chart, the same number of marriages took place in both 1970 and 1980, around 2.5 million, while divorces experienced a significant increase at the same time, from a million in 1970 to nearly 1.5 million in 1980. From 1990 onward, either marriages or divorces declined slightly. The former was around 2.3 million in 1990 and reached two million in 2000, while the latter from a bit less than a million touched one million during 1990 till 2000.
Turning to the second chart, the percentage of American adults who married was the highest in 1970 as well as 2000, with 70% and less than 60, respectively. Followed by never married people that consisted of 15% in 1970 and 20% in 2000. Meanwhile, widowed maintained the level of approximately 10% in both 1970 and 2000. Finally, American adults who decided to divorce included near zero percent in 1970, and it went up dramatically to 10% in 2000.
Overall, it is clear from the charts that, whereas marriages decreased remarkably during 1970 till 2000, the number of divorces climbed considerably between 1970 and 1980, then it declined to one million in 2000, as the same number of 1970.
