The charts below show the changes in ownerships of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The first line chart illustrates the proportion of households in a particular country that owned three main types of gadgets, namely washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner while the second line graph indicates how many hours of housework were recorded on a weekly basis, within a period from 1920 to 2019.

Overall, the ownerships of the 3 appliances had a tendency to be upward while the amount of time spent on housework showed an opposite trend. It is also worth pointing out that at the end of the period, all families in this country were reported to own both refrigerator and vacuum cleaner.

To begin with, in 1920, starting at the highest position, the percentage of households that owned a washing machine was about 40%. This number then experienced a noticeable rise of approximately 30% before flattening out at the end, despite a slight fall in 1980. However, although only 30% of families had a refrigerator at the beginning, this figure increased remarkably and reached the peaked after 8 decades. Surprisingly, in spite of the fact that there were nearly no households possessing a vacuum cleaner, this group’s indicator then witnessed a soar and peaked at 100% after just 7 decades, surpassing the other two counterparts.

Turing to the second line chart, the given country experienced a significant shift in terms of the time spent on household chores in each family, as the number of hours doing housework underwent a steep decline of roughly 40 hours after nearly a century.
