The charts below show the levels of participation in education and science in developing and industrialised countries in 1980 and 1990.
A glimpse at the bar charts given compares the prevalence of science related education, occupation and investment in research between developing and developed countries in the year of 1980 and 1990.
Generally speaking, an overall significant increase in science related education and expenditure can be witnessed over a ten-year period. Moreover, involvement from affluent countries always surpassed their deprived counterparts.
As seen from the information provided, it is obvious that in 1980 average years of study in rich countries outnumber poor countries 4 to 1. Although the average schooling raised by 1 year in developing countries, it was still just one-third that of developed countries after a decade. Likewise, a similar pattern can be noticed in the number of scientists and technicians in both type of countries.
As of expenses on R&D projects, the investment in industrialized and developing countries suffered greatly. In 1980, spending on research projects by both categories were under 150 US billion. In 1990, while the investment in developing countries halved, 200 US billion more were invested in R&D projects in developed countries, which was doubled that of the amount spent by them 10 years ago.
