Overall, there was an upward trend in all examined categories in both genres of countries except for a decline in the amount of money spent on researching and thriving in developing countries. Additionally, the figures for industrialized nations were always higher than those of developing countries over the given years.

Turning to the details, in 1980, people in industrialized countries participated in schools for approximately 9 years, which was almost three times higher than that of developing countries ( about 3 years) registered concurrently. In the next 10 years, the figure for industrialized nations went up gradually to nearly 11 years, compared with only nearly 4 years in the developing countries.

Regarding the number of people working in science and technology, there was a significant growth from just over 40 per 1000 people in 1980 to around 70 per 1000 people in 1990 in industrialized nations in comparison to just a slight increase from 10 to 17 per 1000 people in developing countries. Meanwhile, about 350 billion us dollars was invested in research and development in industrialized countries in 1990, by contrast, the figure for developing countries was only less than 20 billion us dollars.
