The charts below show the number of Japanese tourists traveling abroad between 1985 and 1995 and Australia's share of the Japanese tourist market.

The bar chart indicates the data about the number of Japanese tourists traveling outside of their home country from 1985 to 1995. The line graph illustrates the percentages of those coming to Australia within the same period.

Overall, it is clear that the number of people traveling abroad in Japan and the proportions of those visiting Australia both increased significantly with some minor fluctuations during the period.

As displayed in the first graph, the number of Japanese tourists went up from 5 million people in 1985 to 11 million in 1990. However, it slightly declined to around 10.5 million in the next year, but then made a recovery and remained stable during 1992 and 1993 at about 12 million people. In the last two years, it continued to rise and reached a peak of 15 million people in 1995.

Similarly, in the second chart, the percentage of tourists visiting Australia rose significantly from 2% to approximately 4.5% in the first four years. Despite the constant growth, it went down by a small proportion of 0.5% in the next year, only to recover and increase again from 1989 to 1993. Finally, in 1994, it slightly dropped once again down to only 6%.
