The charts below show the percentage of monthly household income spent on various items by two different groups in one European country

The two pie charts depict how much disposable income(earnings excluding house rent on purchase) is spent by low and high-income groups on similar items but in different proportions.

Firstly, regarding the low-income group, the highest proportion of money is spent on food and drinks - 29 percent, compared to just 15 percent for the high-income group. This is closely followed by a quarter of the total proportion paid out on fuel bills, which contrasts with a much lower figure for this item for the affluent group(only 7%).

Interestingly, with respect to the high earners, the most popular item is recreation and cultural activities - around one-fifth of the total while it is half of that for the lower ones. The higher groups also spend a much higher proportion than the lower-income group on restaurants and hotels(12 percent and 4 percent respectively). The proportion of expenditure on clothing for the two groups is very similar, with only one percent difference between the two(six percent for the high group people and 5 for the lower ones).

Overall, it can be seen that the major proportion of the lowers income is attributed to food & drinks and fuel bills, while that of the high-income group has a more balanced spending pattern. Notably, both of these groups have the least spending on clothing.
