Regarding North America and Europe, about a half of water consumption in both areas is for industry, taking up 48% and 53%, respectively. The figure for the remaining areas including South America, South East Asia, Africa and Central Asia are 10%, 12%, 7% and 5%, sequentially. Also, there is approximately 13% and 15% of water used for domestic use in North America and Europe, accordingly. This number for South America is 19%, which is over twice as high as the figure for Africa. Eventually, Central Asia and South East Asia consume the same amount of water at 7%.
In term of using water for irrigation, it is seen that Central Asia, Africa and South East Asia are in the top three areas using water, with 88%, 84% and 81%, respectively.
