The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO2) emission per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1976 and 2007.

The line graph given demonstrate how much carbon dioxide emitted per each people in four different countries within a timespan of 40 years, commencing with 1967.
Overall, while the amount of carbon dioxide in the UK and Sweden released in a downward trend, meanwhile an upward trend was witnessed in the Italy and Portugal. Another key feature is that the emission of carbon dioxide in the UK always stayed at the highest figure, that reserved in the Portugal over period of 40 years.
In 1967, about 11 tonnes of carbon dioxide emitted by a UK citizen, followed by 9 tonnes in Sweden. In comparison, each Italian discharged over 4 tonnes which was approximately threeford higher than that of a Portuguese.
In the next 40 years, the average amount of carbon dioxide emission in the UK gradually fell to just over 8 tonnes, while the figure for Sweden, after a 1-tonne climb in the first decade, also went down moderately to well under 6 tonnes at the end of the period. In contrast, more CO2 was released by each person in Italy whose figure grew to nearly 8 tonnes in 2007, compare with an equally significant increase to roughly 6 tonnes in Portugal.
