The diagram below shows how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The diagram illustrates the way (in which) the hydroelectric power station generates electricity. There are two directions of the water flow during the daytime and the nighttime.

To begin with, the water from the river flows to the high-level reservoir. In the daytime, operators flow the water in the high-level reservoir downwards to the power station to generate electricity. Next, the turbines start to operate the generators and create electricity and then the electricity is sent to the national grid through the power lines. As a result, the water flows to the low-level reservoir.

On the other hand, in the nighttime, although the electricity might be consumed, the turbines are to be operated reversibly, so that the water in the low-level reservoir is to flow back to the upper reservoir. In other words, the water can be pumped up to the high-level reservoir, which means that the reversible flow of water can be seen between in the daytime and in the nighttime. The high-level reservoir can recharge the water, which is to be used for the following energy generation.

In conclusion, the hydroelectric power plant can generate electricity by using the water flow from the high place to the low in the daytime. By contrast, the reversible flow is to be carried out in the nighttime in order to pump the water up to the high-level reservoir.
