The diagrams below show the design for a wave-energy machine and its location. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The two given charts describe, respectively, the basic functions of wave-energy electric generator, and the cost differences between two diverse locations.

Speaking about the functioning, the machine is based on the wave motion, that it push the water inside the first chamber; while the water level rises, it squeezes the air through the second and the third chamber, the motion of the air flow causes the movement of two turbines and, consequently, the spinning of the electric generator. The entire process is also boosed by another air flow in the opposite direction, the air enters from an opening on the top and descends down to the bottom, helping the turbines rotation and the water motion in and out the generator.

Such a design is highly efficient if it is builded offshore, because out there the waves are much higher and stronger and they can generate a great energy output. Despite the described solution is highly efficient, the drawback are the high cost of installation. To reduces the expenses it is also possible to construct the same generator near to the seaside, saving more resources, but generating less energy, considering that the waves are much weaker near the coastline.
