Overpackaging of food items is a trend nowadays for all product companies. Product companies do not give more weight to product quality but give extra value to good looking and attracting packaging of products. Consumers also get attracted by product packaging instead of looking the quality of the product.
Production companies spending a lot of money on product attractive packing which is almost 30-40% of total cost of the product. We can think about the nice packaging of medicines, one strip of medicine contain only one tablet and get packaged in unwanted big box or packet which can reduce the cost of medicine by big percentage if packed in simple packaging.
Consumers should be aware of product companies business strategy and should not trust on products blindly without even testing the quality of products. Some products packaging which is not recyclable is not good for the ecosystem and produce harmful gases as well. A general study says that any cold drink cost only 20% of selling price, as 80% goes into packaging and marketing.
With above points we can conclude overpackaging can benefit producers by miles but not good for end users. Government bodies also should come into and control by definite laws and rules which can stop producer companies to invest more on product packaging instead of investing more on product quality.
