The two pie charts compare six functions of energy used in an average Australian household and the portation of greenhouse gas produced by these energy consumption.

In Australian, household energy is mainly used for heating and water heating. While the greenhouse gas emitted by heating water and using other appliances occupies the largest proportion, heating produces a relatively small percentage of greenhouse gas.

Heating and water heating are by far the most popular ways of energy consumption, account for 42% and 30%, respectively. However, 32% of greenhouse gas is produced by heating water, compared to only 15% of heating. Figure for energy used in other appliances is only 15%, while the usage of these appliances generating 28% of carbon dioxide.

The percentages of enery use in refrigeration, lighting and cooling account for a small part, at 7%, 4% and 2%, respectively. Australian produce an average of 14% of greenhouse gas in using refrigeration. By contrast, the figures for cooling(3%) and lighting(8%) are below 10%.
