The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.
The two pie charts respectively illustrate the amount of energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in a typical Australian house, broken down into 6 categories: heating, water heating, cooling, refrigeration, other appliances.
According to the first chart, heating uses the largest amount of energy among the others, accounting for nearly 50%. As they can be seen on the chart, water heating and other appliances considerably consume energy, approximately 30% and 15%. Also, the difference between how energy is used in refrigeration and lighting is not too big, about 3%. By contrast, cooling consumes the least energy just only at around 2%.
It is water heating that generates the most greenhouse gas emissions, with an approximate percentage of 32% and followed by 28% of other appliances. With just 1% less, there is a slight difference in percentage of greenhouse gas emissions from heating and refrigeration. Lastly, cooling and lighting generate the least, just under 10%.
We can see a similarity between heating, water heating and other appliances. All of them both consume the most energy and generate the most greenhouse gas emissions. As for cooling and lighting, they don't change in the two pie charts, they all have the lowest percentages of energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
