The information below gives details about household income and spending on food and clothes by an average family in one UK city in 2010 and 2013

The table shows household income and expenditure on food and clothes in an average family in one UK city in 2010 and 2013, together with 2 pie charts giving more details on the spending areas, broken down into 5 groups: fruits and vegetables, meat and fish, dairy products, other food and drinks and finally clothes.

Overall, total income had fallen during the time 2010 to 2013. However, spending on food and clothes rose significantly and we have also seen some changes of the percentage in the areas they spend money on.

Only slightly under half of the total income in 2010 was spent on food and clothes, whilst it had the highest total income, about 29,000 euro. The citizens mainly spent their money on three areas: meat and fish (25%), clothes (22%), fruits and vegetables (20%). On the other hand, other food and drinks and dairy products accounts for just under 20% (18% and 15% respectively) and they also were the least spending areas in 2010.

On contrast, although total income had fallen, at around 4,000 euro in 2013, expenditure on food and clothes rose significantly to slightly over half of its income. People tend to eat much more fruits and vegetables hence the highest percentage. There is a significant decline in consuming meat and fish, by 25% to 15%. also, daily products rose to 20% and it was no longer the least spending area while other food and drinks remains the same percentage at 18%.
