The first chart below shows the results of a survey which sampled a cross-section of 100,000 people asking if they travelled abroad and why they travelled for the period 1994-98. The second chart shows their destinations over the same period.
There have been given two different charts which illustrate data about the trends of UK residents´ visits abroad.
the first one registered the number of Uk resident who travelled abroad from 1994 to 1998 as well as its travelling grounds, meanwhile the second graph provides information about the different regions the visitors chose as destination during the same period.
Talking on the first chart, it is notable that principal purpose of going broad was for Holidays. This category has shown a steady upward trend. The second reason of travel is business, nearly followed by visiting relatives or friends. They both have undergone a gradual slow rise; while the figure of unknown motives has barely altered during this period.
Provided the second graph, it is very clear the preference on the European continent as data reflects, remarking a huge distance to the other regions studied. Despite, the decrease in 1995, each region has increased their visits, but being Europe the one with the sharpest development exceeding 24,000 people in one year.
Overall, it is mainly observed a growth of UK residents travelling abroad, remarking holidays as main purpose of their journeys as well their tendency on visiting the European region more frequently
