The graph shows us a comparison between the birth rates of China and the USA from 1920 to 2000. Both two countries saw considerable fluctuations in fertility, low during 1965 to forward and high during the 1950s.
China birth rate raised from 10% to 15% and fell to 5% in the first 20 years. It was followed by a significant growth that the birth rate of this country reached a peak of 20% in 1950. The latter half of the century, however, there was a sustained reduction in this figure.
The fertility of the USA started with approximately 10% in 1920. This figure fluctuated a little in the first 20 years. It was not until 1940 that this country witnessed a considerable decline in fertility, from 10% to 5%. The birth rate of the USA then peaked up to 15%. From 1960 to 2000, there was a sustained decrease in this figure.
Although the figures of the two countries are nearly the same in 1920, in the final year of the period, there was a huge gap between the fertilities of China and the USA.
