The graph below gives information from Annual Energy Outlook 2008 about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projection until 2030.

The line graph includes information from Annual energy Outlook 2008 about consumption of energy, which is genereted from six different sources, in the us over a 32-year period from 1980 to 2012 and projected consumption until 2030. The units are measured in Quadrillion.

Overall, it is clear that most of American’s energy needs have been met by fossil fuels and predictions were done by this Institute show that this trend will continue in future.

In 1980, oil consumption in the us stood at 35q while coal and natural gas consumed were about 17q and 20q respectively. Despite some fluctuation in the amount of oil consumption, consumption of this source has risen by 5q. A rising of 10q is predicted for this source until 2030. while two other fossil fuels experienced fluctued trend, consumption of those rose gradually, reaching the same point (roughly 25q). it is anticipated that consumption of energy which is derived from natural gas remains this level whereas coal consumption will rise by nearly 5q.

At the beginning of the period, energy from Nuclear, Solar and Hydropower consumed about 4q. A gradual increase was seen in the atomic energy, with figure reaching 8q in 2012. In the future, consumption of this source will be risen by 1q. An insignificant decrease had been occurred in consumption of energy which was provided from sustainable source, before this figure had fallen back to 1980 figure. Now consumption of clean energy source stand under 5q, and it is projected that consumption of those source remain under 7q in 2030.
