The bar suggests the number of hot dogs and buns eaten in 15 minutes by the winners who joined the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest held in Brooklyn’s Coney Island at 4th of July between 1980 to 2010.
It is noteworthy that the number of hot dogs and buns eaten by winners of the contest moved upwards clearly over the period time. The most of the winners were American or Japanese and the American winners almost occupied two third of the champion.
There are two winners exceptional, one of them is from Mexico in 1983, and another was the most unusual winner who won the contest in 1984, the only female winner, Birgit Feldon from Germany. In 1983, the champion of the fourth contest who was Mexican ate 19.5, the number was nearly twice as the number that any previous winner had eaten. The first Japanese winner, who stopped American continuously won the contest, ate 22.25 hot dogs and buns in 1997.
The Japanese winner, Takeru Kobayashi, caused an unbelievable record by ate around 50 hot dogs and buns in 2001, in addition, the winners won consecutively the contest six times from 2001 to 2006. However, an American winner in 2009, Joey Chestnut, became the champion who ate the most in the contest by consumed an incredible number 68 in 15 minutes.
