The graph below shows average carbon dioxide emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The chart illustrates the carbon dioxide released by each person from 1967 to 2007 from four different countries; United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal. Overall, the amount of carbon dioxide emitted varied from one nation to the other.

In 1967, the United Kingdom and Sweden are the highest emitters of carbon dioxide with above 10 and 8 metric tonnes respectively. However, the emittance gradually reduced to 9 metric tonnes in United Kingdom during 2007, whereas in Sweden it rose slightly to 10 metric tonnes in 1977 and thereafter significantly dropped to just below 6 metric tonnes in 2007.

Italy and Portugal are the lowest emitters of carbon dioxide during 1967, but the release per person in both these countries raised as the years passed by. It is clear that, Portugal with just above 1 metric tonne of carbon dioxide emission during 1967, showed a tremendous increase of approximately 6 metric tonnes in 2007. Similar trend was also observed in Italy, which started with an emission of just above 4 metric tonnes by a person in 1967 rose to 8 metric tonnes during 2007 which is indeed a significant increase.

It can be concluded that, the carbon dioxide emission was highest in United Kingdom and Sweden during 1967, however there was a gradual decrease in the emission by the residents of these countries. On the other hand, Portugal and Italy which were lowest emitters during 1967 had increased their emission by 2007.
