The graph compares employment rates in three sectors of the economy, in the UK, 2000-2010.

The line graph illustrates data about the number of employers in three economic sectors in the UK, over a decade between 2000 and 2010.

Overall, what stands out from the graph are that there were significant upward trends in the employment rates of both self-employed and public sector, while the working people of private sector witnessed a substantial fall over the period in question. Another interesting point is that the private sector was the most popular in 2000; however, in 2010, the public sector was employed more workers than the others.

Looking at the details, as regards public sector, income began at just under 40 persons in 2000, at which point it levelled off at the same number until 2002. Following this, the employment rate increased significantly by around 10 persons from nearly 38 people (2002) to approximately 48 people (2006). Next, despite falling slightly to just around employers in 2006, the figure then saw a gradual rise to just above 50 workers at the end of the decade. If we look at self-employment, the trend was similar. It started at below 20 people in 2000, this was followed by a slight increase to 20 employers in 2002. Having declined negligibly at around 18 persons in 2003, employers then rose substantially to nearly 30 in 2010.

By contrast, the rate of employment of private sector went in the opposite direction. It was decreased dramatically by around 30 persons, from 50 employers in 2000 to 20 employers in 2010.
