The table illustrates the percentage of people attending in four types of schools from 2000 to 2009.

Overall, attendance of secondary schools in all categories decreased throughout the period except community schools which had experienced an upward trend.

In terms of voluntary-controlled schools which accounted for the highest proportion between 2000 (52%) and 2005 (38%).
In 2000, there was not a great deal of difference in specialist and community schools' attendance, however, compared to these categories of schools, grammar school had two times more students participation. On the other hand, in 2005, the least contribution was on specialist schools at nearly one-tenth, while grammar schools and community schools accounted for 19% and 32% respectively.

By contrast, the sector of community schools was contributed to the highest percentage of attendance in 2005 (more than half of all attendance). Moreover, all the other three types of schools accounted for less than a fifth of participation.
