The line graph provides information about oil production and usage in China for a period of 24 years that is from 1982 to 2006.
Overall, although both utilization and production were at the same level at the beginning, consumption of oil outweighed production by the end of the period.
Looking at consumption, in 1982, 2 million barrels of oil were used and the rates remained same until 1990 where there was a rapid surge in the consumption reaching to around 3.8 million barrels in 1994. This trend continued and consumption increased drastically to 4 million and 5 million barrels in 1998 and 2002 respectively. Similarly, by the end of the period consumption was recorded to be approximately 6.5 million barrels, which was the highest among all the years.
With regards to production, in 1982, it was same as that of consumption (2 million barrels). However, it did not undergo the same trend. In 1986, 3 million barrels of oil were produced and the numbers continued till 1998. After which, there was a slight increase to about 3.2 million barrels and remained the same till 2006.
