Map Hydroelectric Power Station
The diagram illustrates the process of generation of electricity in a hydroelectric power station. The entire process involves three major stage: storing of river water in a high altitude reservoir, generation of electricity in power station and pumping the excess water back to the upper reservoir.
The entire process runs in a cyclic manner stating at daylight till night. Firstly, the river water is stored in upper reservoir backed by a dam, which has intake that remains open in the day and close at night. Secondly, in the day time, stored water is channeled to the power station, and directed to reversible turbine, which activate the generator to produce electricity. This produced electricity is transmitted to National power grid via high tension power lines. In addition, the excess water is stored in the lower reservoir.
Lastly, the excess water is pumped back the upper stored location by reversible turbine, and replenished the upper reservoir for next day.
