Oil use of major consumers

he line graph illustrates the amount of oil consumed per day between 2009 and 2030 in four different areas.

Overall, from 2015, oil consumption in the US and also in Western Europe and Japan is forecast to decline, in contrast to the expected increase in China and the Middle East. The US will remain the major consumer throughout the period.

In 2009, in the US the number of barrels of oil used daily came up to 10 billion. The figures were considerably lower for Western Europe and Japan at around 4 billion, and China and Middle East at 2 billion barrels each. While the consumption went down in Western Europe and Japan by 2015 and reached a peak in the US, there was an increase in oil consumption in China and Middle East.

By 2030, the number of barrels of oil consumed daily in the US is predicted to drop to about 4 billion, while consumption is expected to decrease to 2 billion barrels in Western Europe and Japan. By contrast, in the Middle East, a rise in the amount of oil consumed is anticipated to reach a peak of 3 million barrels in 2030. This is slightly lower than the estimated figure in China.
