The pie chart provide information the four main reasons causes the worldwide land degradation while the table shows the these land degradation affected in three regions namely, North America, Europe and Oceania in the year of 1990s.
Overall, the main causes of land degradation were over-grazing and deforestation, and Europe was the most affected regions by land degradation than the other two regions.
According to the pie chart, total 65% of land degradation causes for over-grazing and deforestation which was 35% and 30% respectively. Then 28% of worldwide land degradation causes for over-cultivation of crops. The only 7% of land degradation causes for other reasons.
These causes affected in different regions in 1990s. In Europe most of the land degradation causes for deforestation was 9.8%, while the impact of this on North America and Oceania was minimal, only 0.2% and 1.7% respectively. The highest overall percentage of land degraded in Europe was 23%, also sufferd from over-cultivation was 7.7% and over-grazing was 5.5%. In contrast, Oceania had total 13% of land degraded mainly due to over-grazing was 11.3%. On the other hand, North America was the lowest proportion of land degraded at only 5%, and these causes for the over cultivation was 3.3%, and Over-grazing was 1.5%.
