The pie chart describes the main reasons why land for agriculture becomes less productive and the table highlights the factors affected three areas of the world, namely, North America, Europe and Oceania during the 1990s.

Overall, it can be clearly seen that over-grazing, deforestation and over-cultivation accounted for one third of total land degradation globally, but these factors affected in different regions vary.

The most significant factor for degradation of land is over-grazing by livestock at 35 %. There was closely followed by deforestation ( 30% ) and over-cultivation ( 28% ) and minimal amount 7 % is made up for other reasons.

By looking at the regions, Europe was the most suffered region of land degradation with 23 %. While 9.8 % of deforestation was the major factor, over-cultivation and over-grazing were responsible for 7.7 % and 5.5 % in turn. In Oceania, total 13 % of land was degraded.This was caused by over-grazing with 11.3%,was the highest rate for three regions. North America was only 5% was degraded by 3.3 % for over-cultivation.
