The pie chart below shows the main reasons why agricultural land becomes less productive. The table shows how these cause affected three regions of the world during the 1990s.

The pie chart provides information about the four main causes of land degradation globally. The table illustrates the reasons for degraded land by regions throughout the 1990s.

Overall, it is clear that the largest portion of total land degraded was in Europe and this was caused mainly by deforestation, over-cultivation and over-grazing.

it can be seen from the graph that 65% of land degradation stemmed from over-grazing and deforestation, 35% and 30% respectively. Similarly, the percentage of worldwide land devastation stood at slightly less than a third. However, other causes constituted the smallest proportion of earth degradation globally (7%).

Regarding the causes of land damage by region, the biggest part of total land degraded was in Europe (23%) compared to North America and Oceania (5% and 13% respectively). To be more precise, deforestation and over-cultivation made up nearly a tenth each of entire earth degradation in Europe, while over-grazing comprised 5.5% of all land devastation. Talking about North America, over-cultivation contributed considerably to total land degradation by 3.3% compared to deforestation (0.2%) and over-grazing (1.5%). In contrast, over-cultivation account for 0% of total land degraded in Oceania, whereas the biggest percentage of devastation made up over-grazing (13%) and deforestation constituted around 2% of land degradation in Oceania.
