Overall, the percentage of sales for each of the five sectors changed significantly from 1972 to 2012. While Adult fiction and Children’s fiction saw an increase in the figure of sales, Travel and Others books received less purchasing after 40 years.
Adult fiction comprised of 20% in the first year which rose marginally to 25% 20 years later and reached 45% in 2012. Likewise, in 1972, Children’s fiction accounted for 20% and respectively increased to 22% and 25% in 1922 and 2012.
In contrast, Biography genre saw a considerable decline from 20% in 1972 to 15%
in 1992 and finally reduced by a more than half to 8% over the period. Meanwhile, sales of Travel book witnessed a slight growth by 3% from 1972 to 1992 before a sudden fall to only 10% in 2012.
