The pie charts below show units of electricity production by fuel source in Australia and France in 1980 and 2000.

The pie charts describe units of electricity production by fuel source in Australia and France from 1980 to 2000. Overall, it is clear that the number of total electricity production in both countries showed an upward trend during the twenty years, from 100 units in 1980 to 170 units in 2000 in Australia and from 90 units to 180 units in France.

Starting with the first pie chart, coal produced the largest amount of electricity in 1980, at 50 units. Then its production rose dramatically 130 units in 2000, which was still at the highest position. The same trend can be seen in the production of electricity by hydro power, from 20 units (equal to that by natural gas) in 1980 to 36 units in 2000. However, the production of electricity by natural gas and oil declined to the lowest position (2 units) in 2000 from 20 and 10 units respectively.

Turning now to the second chart, the amount of electricity created by nuclear power increased dramatically to the highest point (126 units) in 2000 from a minor figure (15 units) in 1980. Meanwhile, a slight rise can also be seen in oil from 20 units to 25 units. By contrast, during the twenty years, the amount of electricity generated by natural gas and hydro power decreased to the lowest position at 2 units from 25 units and 5 units separately. The electricity production by coal remained stable in the meantime.
