Nowadays, different crimes are rampant all over the country although there are corresponding law punishments for it. People still tend to do heinous acts because of vast reasons that for them considered as acceptable. This essay will explain the both views and my opinion with regards to the concept of longer imprisonment is the best way to lessen crime and also, discuss other alternative ways of reducing it.
Longer imprisonment in my opinion is not the best way to reduce crime. I consider it as a shallow way in order to give due justice to the oppressed family and the victim itself. For example, in my country, the crime rate doubled the moment that death penalty was abolished. Rape cases, murder and robbery are the top cases always broadcasted on television however there is no due process nor justice implemented.
I believe that other alternative ways are better in reducing crime. For example, death penalty and lethal injection, these way people will be afraid or somewhat hesitant to commit any crime because this will be grave enough to suffice their wrongful acts. My father was killed by drug addicts while on his way home after work, and experiencing this dreaded situation, I will never say no to these kind of punishment. Innocent lives will be protected and this will also give an advantage to get even with the culprit after due process.
In my opinion, committing immoral acts need to have equivalent punishment so that it will serve as a lesson and warning flag to the criminals. “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” is my principle in life and it will be so fulfilling if I also see the person who killed my father, the only one that I love the most, be sentenced to death too.
