The table depicts the proportion of expenditure on different items in five countries in 2002. In general, the most significant percentage of consumer spending in each nation went to food, drinks, and tobacco, while leisure/education category has the lowest percentages in the table.

Out of five nations, Ireland and Turkey showed the biggest amount of consumption in most goods listed. For example, consumer spending on food, drinks, and tobacco was noticeably higher in Turkey, at 32.14%, and in Ireland, at nearly 29%. The proposition of spending on leisure and education was also highest in Turkey, at 4.35%, whereas the expenditure on clothing and footwear was significantly higher in Italy (at 9%) than all other nations.

By comparison, food/drinks/ tobacco was average popular in Italy and Spain where a figure of less than 19% was seen. However, clothing/footwear which was less consumed in other countries turned to be the most favorite in Italy with 9%. The remaining type of items, meanwhile, was less prevalent in these two countries with no more than 3.5% consumer spending on it.

On the other hand, Sweden, despite being the lest spender in food/drinks/tobacco and clothing/footwear categories, consumed leisure and education more than other nations, except Turkey. Strikingly, only in leisure/education, Sweden and Italy revealed nearly the same amount of spending at around 3.2%.
