Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The table reveals the top ten nations on the leaderboard of The London 2012 Summer Olympic Games, and shows how many medals these countries won during the competition time.

It is clear that the USA held the top position and Australia collected the smallest number of gold medals. While the USA obtained the biggest number of gold and silver medals, Russia got the first place in terms of getting bronze medals.

According to the results, the USA, China and the UK were the top three on this Olympic Festival. Italy, Hungary and Australia ranked 8th, 9th and 10th respectively with just 7 or 8 gold medals. It is noticeable that the top three countries cumulatively won more gold medals than the sum of the rest did in this tournament.

When it comes to the specific medals, the USA and Russia would be mentioned. The USA athletes gained the highest number of gold and silver medals with 46 and 29 for each type. On the other hand, in spite of securing the biggest number of bronze medals with 32 pieces, the Russians just were 4th position in the final.
