The given line graph illustrates the number of complaints received by the Environmental Health Department according to the type of noises heard in the city of Newtown from 1980 to 1996.
Although the main reason for noise complaints was domestic or household problems at the starting point of researching time but 16 years later, the authorities got the largest amount of criticisms in relation to the road work.
In 1980, the authorities received the greatest number of complaints with over 600 times concerning domestic and household disturbances. The smallest number of complaints was 300 which caused by traffic noise. Regarding factories and road work, the Newtown residents presented their dissatisfaction about commotions with 400 and 450 times respectively.
During the period of 16 years, the figure for domestic and household steadily decreased and reached the lowest point of 70. Beginning with 500 in 1980, the number of complaints in regard to the noise of road work remained stable between 1980 and 1984, slightly declined from 1984 to 1988 before experiencing a dramatic rise to the peak of approximately 1200 times over the next 8years. On the other hand, the number of complaints about heavy industries steeply increased six years on, since that time it remained reasonably stable during the next 10 years. The last noticeable thing, the number of complaints caused by traffic noise stabilized in four years until it plummeted to a low point of 200 till 1988, then it and continued to incline steadily until the end of 1996.
