The table shows forested land in millions of hectares in different parts of the world.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

The table demonstrates the area of the land covered by forests in different regions across the world in the years 1990, 2000 and 2005.

Overall, what stands out is that while Asia and Europe witnessed an increase in the area of forest over the 15-year period, the opposite trend was true for other regions. Additionally, Ocean was the continent whose forest area was by far the smallest.

In Europe, the forested land progressively rose from 989 millions of hectares in 1990 to over 1 billion hectares by 2005. Meanwhile, there was a slight decrease of 6 millions of hectares in Asian forest area in the first 5 years, which was followed by a growth to 584 millions of hectares by the end of the period.

Turning to the remaining continents, whereas Africa and South America's forested land experienced a significant drop of over 50 million of hectares to 691 and 882 millions of hectares respectively, that of Europe and Oceania saw a minimal decline, with the figures for the former declined by 3 million of hectares and the latter fell by 2 million of hectares.
