task 1: the consumer price index
The graph compares the changes of proportion of people who are aged 65 or more in three different countries, namely japan, sweden, and the USA, over a period of 80 years from 1940 to 2020 with projection for 20 next years.
Overall, it is clear that in all three areas the percentage of elderly people have been risen. Prediction shows this trend will continue for future.
At the beginning of the period the percentage of people aged 65 or more in the US and sweden stood around 9% and 7% respectively. A similar trend was seen in changes in American and Swiss old people until 1990s, before meeting them in 2000 at approximately 14%. Despite some difference, both of them rose gradually until 2040, reaching around 20%.
In 1940, japan, where is its elderly population consisted of around 5% of its population, was experienced a different trend between 1940 and 1980. At this time, this proportion decrease to nearly 2.5% in 1980, before rising to 1940 figure in 2000. A gradual rise was seen in Japanese elderly people until 2030. Suddenly, this figure rise dramatically to 25% before reaching the highest percent between all countries, which was mentioned in this graph, about 3% higher than sweden figure.
