Today, TV channels broadcast man’s sport shows more than women’s sport shows. Why? Should TV channels give equal showtime for women’s sport and men’s sport?
It is true that man’s sport shows are more popular in TV channel than women’s sport shows. There could be several reasons for this trend, and I claim that TV channels should balance two types of sport shows.
Granted, the sport shows have the attendance of men which is more interesting and thrilling, especially football. The rate of audience watching men football competitions is considerably higher than that of women, because of the fact that men possess speed and skills which are more outstanding than women. Another rationale is the main audiences of most TV channels are males. Therefore, they will prioritize programs which have a relatively high watching rate.
In my view, TV channels should balance show-time for women’s sport and men’s sport. In spite of the fact that there are no many women watching sport shows, the frequent schedule of them broadcast on TV channels will enhance the rate of female watching. It exerts positive effects on social health due to encouragement and inspiration of people joining in exercises. Furthermore to maintain gender equality, women should have the same show-time of shows on TV despite the low audience attraction. Vietnam, for example, has seen an equal sharing between women’s and men’s football shows on TV channel which are supported by government and society.
