Many people argue that a lot of job applicants are asked to provide their personal information including their hobbies and their marital status to their employer which is totally irrelevant. Whereas others opine that this information could be useful. I believe, personal details help the hiring authority to have a background check of the candidate, however this information should not misused as a reason for rejecting or selecting the candidate.
Nowadays a lot of companies recruiting commitee asks for their employees personal details to have a greater understanding of their likes and dislikes as well as their priorities. People who are married and have a family to look out for will have a better chance of getting hired, as they have a sense of responsibility. Also, knowing hobbies or interests of an employee helps a company to encourage productivity of their staff by organizing sporting events or an outing trips.
On the other hand, some times sharing personal information can prove to be detrimental for the employees. In India, a lot of companies rejects unmarried females, as they think they might leave the city or a country aftter getting married. Regardless of their qualification female candidates often have to face denial from companies. So under such circumstances, one loses a chance to accomplish their career prospect. Such selection criteria should be discourages and it is really important to speak up against such biased mentality.
In conclusion, many times personal information helps a company to organize various events that can act as a refreshment for their employees. Also, knowing the sense of maturity and responsibility can help one to get a good position. However, the companies using these information as a opportunity to reject a candidate based on their marital status needs to be discouraged.
